LUCKY LUCY FOUNDATION: Soldiers and Orphans of War

[Please note these articles below are for your information but are not necessarily written by ourselves.]

The following article has been mailed to us from the Lucky Lucy Foundation:  to see more about this amazing team and the challenges they face every day go to our links page and click on the Lucky Lucy Link.  Their Banking Details will be published at the end of this letter if you would like to assist them.

Heading down the dusty and steel cold roads of Kuilsriver, Kraaifontein, Wallacedene, and a few other areas, we came across a another ‘war’, a kind of continuous ‘war’ that we can’t get use to, but one between Animals and Humans.....

Animals trying to fight for themselves and the humans continue to win, but we went in with our troops. Our colonel’s name is Education, our Lieutenant Kindness and some of our specialist forces’ names are, Sterilization, Feeding, Social Upliftment, Responsibility and Rehabilitation. We make a very good team, see attached of one of our areas where we kind of won the war(written from a fellow animal rescuers point of view). Please remember the Lucky Lucy Foundation perseveres with Education of the less privileged, it works, we see it working, because we are not judging them, we are helping them by spending the time and resources that is needed to do what no one does, so don’t perceive this as another one of those mails exclaiming that all townships are bad, because it may seem so now, but if we continue to fight this war, and if you continue to help us.... one day we will win!!

We went in now again, to rescue our fellow troop members, who were trying to fight this war but they failed – their names are below the pictures you see at the bottom.

I hand over to Brutus to tell you their story:

“Despite the infamy of my brutal rampage, with my troop across many townships and impoverished suburbs – all sides engaged in savage, often provoked acts of violence throughout our war. We were starved, indiscriminately beat and denied the most rudimentary medical care and sanitation causing all my friends to suffer horribly and eventually die of disease, exposure, hunger and broken hearts. In many of our ‘camps’ the main source of water was the sewer. We were always in confinement , we thought it would be temporary but weeks grew into months – our rations were reduced to the point of starvation.

We have faced extensive dark times – aside from the persistent and numbing fear of being killed(euthanized). But I had to defend what I had left in me, I had to defend my friends – I did all I could, ripped, roared, growled and snarled – foaming at the mouth to keep the humans away! But now we are in a critical time, I have severe aggression in me due to suffering physical abuse, my friend Billy now has Epilepsy due to the madness of suffering and Ashia (hope)  and Asha (life), came through this war cursed, beaten, & exposed but now we are all here, what will happen next?

Silently screaming, nobody hears, falling down our cheeks are unseen tears. We need your help – nobody cares – this silent suffering is getting to be more than we can bear. Please help us now get rid of our fear, please help us now sort through this despair.”

The orphans have severe worms, thankfully that seems to be all that is wrong, for now......Brutus has immense aggression to the point where others may consider it better to euthanize, Billy has Epilepsy, Ashia and Asha have severe mange, immune deficiency, parasites, possible cancer. We are asking you to help us save our troops, they have come this far......helps us give the Orphans the best second chance in life, help us by trusting and believing in us that we can Rehabilitate Brutus as his anger is not his fault, believe in us and him that he will change, help us with Billy’s Epilepsy to run the proper tests to find the best medication if needed to give him quality of life but above all please help us save Ashia and Asha, to give them the treatment, medication, love and care they yearn for......It is with your suppawt that we can save them, it is with your suppawt that we can win this war.

A few facts about this unknown yet continuous war:

  • This abuse and this neglect is happening not because of anything other than the lack of knowledge and education, nobody really wants to spend the time it takes to sit a community down and teach them how – we have been privileged with an education, these people haven’t. So we spend the time that is needed to teach them on care, love and proper treatment of animals (the attachment tells you), it works!!!!
  • The continuous breeding of animals, not only in townships but in middle class homes too – that thing of just having one litter to show the kids etc., but how do you keep track of those puppies after 5 years when you gave them away to someone, will they be sterilized? Will they be given away, how will you know? This abuse and neglect will stop if people understand that sterilization is the number 1 key, as your pet who gave birth and those puppies you gave away can and 90% of the time does end up like this.
  • Consider the following: An average female dog will have at least 3 litters within in a two year period which by the end of 8 years will mean 10368 unwanted puppies. The situation is worse for cats, from just 3 unsterilized females more than 16785 unwanted kittens can be born over a 3 year period – basically put one female and her off spring all going unsterilized in a period of seven years can produce up to 70000 unwanted animals – now in South Africa alone divide this with the amount of equally suitable homes, each home would have to adopt more than 8 dogs and 15 cats – how impossible is this, so our ‘war’ exclaims the severity of the problem.

Thus help us now not only give Brutus, Billy, Ashia, Asha and the orphans the best second chance in life but help as to fight this war by:

  • Sponsoring a sterilization, at R220 an animal we can make a difference, our aim is to sterilize 1000 animals, please help us to do this.
  • Sponsor a rehab dog – the above new rescues are all rehab dogs, your choice.
  • Become a Lucky Lucy Guardian Angel for just R50 per month – please mail me for further details of this.
  • But above of please spread the word, forward my mail. Help us to help these and so many others like them.

Please let us show these ones what life is all about – who will put their paw forward to help us save them and to fight this war?
